The Impeachment of the 45th President, Donald J. Trump, formally began this week and today is the fourth day of it. We’re in the midst of the House Managers working through their presentation and we’re starting to see the tensions ramp up a bit more. Trump is starting to Tweet more, though that’s still toothless to many at this stage, while others are defending themselves such as Vindman pushing back on Senator Blackburn.
While we continue to understand that most Republican Senators aren’t taking this seriously by their actions and what they say throughout the day, we are seeing some bits here and there, such as Maine’s independent Senator Angus King saying that this is more serious than he thought.
A lot of yesterday was analysis and exploring the reasons why what happened is a serious issue in regards to the Constitution. And there were many times that the Republicans hypocrisy was exposed. But, as we know, they’re somehow impervious from that really making an impact.
The Senate will be hearing presentations beginning at 1 pm ET today as Chief Justice John Roberts has Supreme Court duties in the morning. The session will again be regarding two Articles of Impeachment:
- Article I, “Abuse of Power,” accuses Trump of pressuring the Ukrainian government into announcing an investigation into the Bidens by withholding both a White House meeting and military aid.
- Article II, “Obstruction of Congress,” accuses Trump of trying to impede the impeachment inquiry by urging government agencies not to comply with subpoenas and witnesses not to cooperate.
All the usual rules apply to this thread as it does to others and the PT thread, but this is not a daily PT thread as we hope folks that normally don’t follow politics will be able to follow along and understand the importance of this, the third impeachment in the history of the United States.
