On the 12th of January  1992, HAL 9000 became operational at  HAL Laboratories in Urbana,  Illinois. A monumental achievement in Artificial Intelligence, HAL 9000 was used to control the onboard computer systems of the USSC Discovery One on it’s mission to Jupiter in 2001.
