Werewolf 109 – Werewolf: The Musical! Day 3

The first round of wardrobe fittings was today, and it soon became obvious to the company that the costumes for this show were going to be terrible. Everything was ill-fitting, but worse, nothing made sense. Why did one wolf have two tails? Why did another have scales? How would they be able to perform the sensual “Dance of the Wine in Front of Me?” in these hideous concoctions? Most headed over to the Glass House Tavern to lift a few.

But not all.

Rapunzel, the only company member who was happy with her costume, lingered a little longer in the dressing rooms. She was so busy admiring how the wolf fur made her beautiful long hair shimmer, she didn’t notice the three figures behind her with lighting instruments in their hands.

Bam! One hit the back of her head, and she was down. The figures shrugged and started to leave, when she jumped back to her feet. A lively music hall accompaniment struck up as she did so.

“I am Laz’rus, risen from the grave!/Quite alive you find me – this tomb behind me–”

She went down again as the figures beat her to death with cheap fresnels.

Rapunzel (THE HAYES CODE) is DEAD. She was BETTY BUCKLEY (INVESTIGATOR).

Jack Skellington was wandering the the wings of the Brooks Atkinson, deep in existential thought. Shouldn’t he be back in Halloween Town, and not in this ridiculous show? What was this show anyway? And what the heck is a dance belt, exactly?

He didn’t see the barrel of the gun peek out from behind the cyc, or the woman’s voice singing “Mama’s talking loud, mama’s doin’ fine, mama’s gettin’ hot, mama’s goin’ strong…” on an endless loop. He did hear the gunshot, but by then it was too late.

Jack Skellington (DW) is DEAD. He was an evil understudy (VANILLA WOLF.)

The flustered young music director was still hard at work in the rehearsal room at 2 am. He could not get the 7/4 section of “We’re Still Waiting for the Mod to Post the Results,” a recently added Act 2 opener. He got even angrier when he saw the dynamic markings.

“The bassoon section cannot play quadruple piano, dammit!” he yelled into the empty room.

As he got back to practicing, he heard a faint “why….”

“Hello???” he called.

“Why….”

“Why? Who’s there? WHY WHAT?”

“WHY DO THE WRONG PEOPLE TRAVEL TRAVEL TRAVEL?”

The Music Director (Owen) is DEAD. He was VANILLA TOWN.

ROLES:

CHORUS MEMBERS (9 VANILLA TOWN) – The hardest working people in the show, the chorus members are the glue that hold the whole production together. They may not get to belt out the eleven o’clock number, but they are proud members of Actor’s Equity, and as such they have the power of their vote to attempt to oust the evil understudies in their midst.

PATTI LUPONE (VIGILANTE) – Whether it’s grabbing an audience member’s phone out of their hands during a show or squaring off with Andrew Lloyd Weber, Patti has always been willing to take the law into her own hands. Many years ago, she stole the prop gun from the West End production of Sunset Boulevard. Just a few days ago, Bernadette Peters sent her three lucky bullets as a good luck gift going into previews. She can use up to one bullet per night until all three have been fired in her attempts to eradicate the company of evil understudies.

BETTY BUCKLEY (INVESTIGATOR) – Ever since starring in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Betty has kept her investigative skills honed. She is a master of disguise, and has been known to creep up to actors napping on the Equity cot and rifle through their pockets to determine if they are an evil understudy, or just a normal chorus member.

AUDRA MCDONALD (JAILOR) – Audra’s got six Tony awards, and she keeps them under lock and key ever since the night Judy Kuhn got drunk and tried to sneak one out under her caftan. Every night, Audra can choose one company member to throw in her Tony vault for protection. She cannot jail the same person two nights in a row. She cannot jail herself.

EVIL UNDERSTUDIES  (3 WOLVES)

  • CHEYENNE JACKSON (WOLF LEADER) – The leader of the evil understudies, Cheyenne’s a veteran, so if investigated he will read as a normal chorus member (VT).
  • SUTTON FOSTER (WOLF RECRUITER) – Sutton comes from a theatrical family, so once during the game she can summon her less-talented older brother HUNTER FOSTER to join the evil understudies.
  • 1 NAMELESS EVIL UNDERSTUDY (VANILLA WOLF)
  • HUNTER FOSTER (WOLF RECRUIT)

THE GHOST OF ELAINE STRITCH (SK)

Elaine’s back and she’s hungry for blood…and ATTENTION.
