Let’s discuss any and all music here. Got a new artist who’s rocking your boat that you want to talk about? Post a video! Found out about that unearthed Coltrane album that has the jazz freak in you losing your mind? Lay it out for us! Have a theory about what your favorite band might do for their next album? Let’s hear it! Anything and everything music-related goes here.
REMINDER: On Thursday December 12, the discussion prompt for the Weekly Music Thread will be “Favorite Albums and Songs of the Decade”. For anyone who’s interested in participating, hopefully this will give you ample time to prepare your lists of favorite albums and songs from this decade, and have them ready to go! I will continue to post this reminder in the weeks leading up to the big day, and will also be posting in the open thread to both spread the word and to (hopefully) prevent someone else from posting a separate thread devoted to this exact same topic.
This week’s discussion prompt:
It’s our 69th Weekly Music Discussion Thread!
To mark this nice occasion, feel free to talk about any and all music-related things connected to the number 69! Some ideas:
- Your favorite albums or songs from 1969 (1969 was no 1967 in terms of music, but it was still a very good year on the whole)
- The music festivals that took place in 1969 (Woodstock and Altamont are only two of the festivals that took place that year)
- 69 Love Songs by the Magnetic Fields
- Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and the Way to Suck Eggs by Ministry (it took me longer than I care to admit to fully understand the play on words in that title)
- “1969” by the Stooges from their self-titled debut album (also released in 1969).
- “Death Valley ’69” by Sonic Youth
- “Born in ’69” by Rocket from the Crypt
- “Star 69” by R.E.M.
- “Summer of ’69” by Ryan Adams
And even if you have no interest in the number 69, the year 1969, or sixty-nines in general (nice as it can be, giving and receiving at the same time can also make fully enjoying two things more difficult) as always, any and all music-related topics are welcome.
Have fun, and rock out with yr guac out!
