On October 19th 1902 or 1903 (records, not yet caught by the whirlwind of progress, vary) in Brännkyrka, Stockholms län, Sweden, Tor Johnson was born. He started out as a professional wrestler before moving over to acting in the 30s; usually cast as a tough or weightlifter. Tor is probably best known for a string of B movies in the 50s directed by his friend, Ed Wood Jr., classics such as Bride of the Monster, the Unearthly, and the immortal Plan 9 From Outer Space. In 1961 he would star as the titular monster in the cult classic Beast of Yucca Flats. Tor also did some television work, most notably in an classic episode of Peter Gunn. In contrast to his menacing onscreen presence, Tor was known as a friendly smart person, who was fun and easy to work with.
Have fun posting, and ponder the immortal question: Flag on the Moon; how did it get there?
