WNBA Finals Game 1 Thread

It’s Championship time!

The WNBA playoffs are now down to the finals and a showdown between the two best teams in the regular season: The Washington Mystics and the Connecticut Sun. Both teams are looking for their first WNBA Championship

(2) The Connecticut Sun

The Sun started out the season on an absolute tear, going  11-2 in the first 13 games, thanks mostly to all-star Jonquel Jones. Then they began to crack; losing five straight games, mostly badly. They righted themselves somewhat, but have never really looked like the dominate team they were in the beginning of the season. It’s been said that they lack star power, but the Sun have a very strong lineup, including Alyssa Thomas, Jasmine Thomas, and Courtney Williams.

In their semifinal series against the LA Sparks; the Sun started out all three games rather flat and out of sync in the first half, but came on strong in the second half to sweep aside the Sparks.

(1) Washington Mystics

The Washington Mystics had an historic season in 2019; one in which they set all sorts of franchise and WNBA records, . Led by Elena Delle Donne, Mystics were completely dominant all season.  EDD, the 2019 MVP, herself had an historic season in which she became the first player in WNBA history with 50% from the field, 40% from the three point range and 90% from the free throw line.

Defeating the LV Aces 3-1, the Mystics,  though they were thoroughly outplayed in their one loss, have looked rather impressive os far in this years playoffs.  Emma Messesman  has started to really shine.  The Belgian scored 27 points in Game One, 30 in Game Two, and 22 in Game Four. She, along with Elena Delle Donne, make for one of the best offenses in  the WNBA

The Sun won the regular season 2-1, but the one Mystics  win was a 102-59 rout that ranks as one of the biggest blowouts in WNBA history.
