Hey, all; Happy Friday –
As I sit here writing this, yesterday, I find myself in the paradoxical position of both being happy that I’m not currently at my job, and angry that I’m currently not at my job.
Stop me if you’ve heard this story, before: Something that you need to, if not necessarily to live, then at least to thrive, unexpectedly eats it; and now you find yourself in the unenviable position of asking for time off. For some, that’s not a big deal, with some bosses being generally chill about it; for others…Less so, though that’s a whole other discussion. (In fact, it was!)
Rather, let’s say you were able to, and now you find yourself instead tending to your other non-work-related business. With any luck, you’ll be able to get this done, and still log some hours; a little mini-break with pay, as it were.
Except…That’s not how it works; not ever. The part you need isn’t in, so you’ll need to take time off on yet another day to get it installed. Or, the part is in, but it’s going to take a lot longer to fix than you thought. Or, they can get it done today, but only sometime within the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. And then your boss texts you to ask if you have any idea of when you’re coming in; etc, etc…
Well, short version, that’s the situation I find myself in; waiting for my usual chair maintenance people with a window from from now to, I don’t know, some time within the next vernal equinox. I’d use the old analogy about the cable company, but, all in all, they’ve been more exacting than these guys have.
In case you haven’t figured it out, that’s the sub-topic for today: having time for the everyday B.S. in the middle of your professional B.S; and, of course, anything else you might need to get out.
As ever, have a safe, and productive rest of the day, safe trip home, and a great weekend. And remember:
(NOTE: As I was typing this, I got a call from the repair place; I should now hope to expect them sometime between 3:00 and 5:00……………………………………Fuck it; I’m treating myself to lunch. Stay well, all)
