Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Jul. 22

Here are today’s contestants:

– Cristina, a forensic scientist from New Jersey, explains her job to children by making a case against Goldilocks;
– James, a tax professional from California, went to Spain with his dad and found his third cousin; and
– Jason, a math teacher from New Mexico, solves Sodoku puzzles around the world. Jason is a one-day champ with winnings of $26,600.

Excellent contest in which Jason extended his lead on DD3 and held the top spot going into FJ with $27,600 vs. $18,000 for James and $7,000 for Cristina.

DD1, $1,000 – A FUNERAL ORATION – General Henry Lee’s funeral oration for George Washington contains the line, “First in war, first in peace and first” here (James lost $2,000 from his score of $4,200.)

DD2, $1,600 – FLAGS – Some have noted the often-seen mix-up of this nation’s flag with the Red Cross emblem (James won $3,000 from his leading score of $12,600.)

DD3, $1,200 – POETIC TERMS – Don’t hold back, name this repeated line in a poem, also a verb meaning to hold back (Jason won $5,000 from his leading total of $19,400.)

FJ – LANDMARKS – David Livingstone wrote of this discovery of his, “Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight”

Everyone was incorrect on FJ and Jason dropped $9,000 to win with $18,600 for a two-day total of $45,200.

Note that by getting the last clue of DJ, Jason was able to keep James from being within two-thirds of his score. This might have won the game for him, as otherwise James would have taken the victory if he made strategic small bet on FJ.

Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the absurdist Kurt Vonnegut novel featuring Billy Pilgrim is “Slaughterhouse-Five”.

This day in shilling: There was an entire category devoted to audiobooks available on Audible.

Correct Qs:

DD2 – What is Switzerland?
