Getting a lot done recently, which is good because it feels like I’m improving my skills in a lot of ways, but not so much in that I live in an apartment of about 150 square feet, and can only devote some of that space to storing my artwork. I’ve been able to use hooks on the walls for some of this, and it’s kinda fun to have a personal gallery of sorts (pictured in the header). That said, I did another purge of my… less impressive stuff (I’d say “read ‘crap’”, but I don’t hate—at least not too much—some of the pieces I’m deep-sixing) and it feels nominally good, if melancholy that stuff I worked on for not inconsiderable amounts of time wound up on the scrapheap. I know this is a necessary step for any creative artist, but the effort and material that goes into painting makes this feel qualitatively different.

On the other hand, I’m trying to circumvent the issue a little by delving back into online illustration and coloring. While I’m steering clear of actual digital illustration for the present until I get a better handle (literally) on hand posture so that my screen doesn’t take too much weight, I’m having fun coloring a few old (and new) scanned ink pictures with Paint 3D (as with this month’s Staff Partiers, above). Looking forward to August when I’m likely to take another reading break and brainstorm for the hopeful completion of my webcomic by the end of the year (likely in a one-off online graphic novel).
