Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Jul. 3

Let’s meet today’s contestants:

– Cathy, a retired teacher from West Virginia, likes the lack of traffic in her adopted home state;
– Dan, an education administrator from Connecticut, takes “mannual” trips; and
– Charlie, a librarian from Colorado, is writing a musical about the dairy baron of Illinois. Charlie is a one-day champ with winnings of $32,800.

Charlie led at every break and hit both DDs in DJ to build a runaway at $25,800 vs. $8,400 for Dan and $2,400 for Cathy.

DD1, $600 – TIME & PLACE – 1541, Lima: this conquistador is murdered at dinner in his palace (Cathy won the table limit of $1,000 from a score of $0.)

DD2, $1,200 – CREATIONS – Horace Hunley pioneered this transport & during a test run of one during the Civil War perished along with his crew (Charlie won $3,000 from his total of $11,800.)

DD3, $2,000 – ITALIAN MUSIC TERMS – Chopin taught this style of playing with linked notes, the opposite of staccato, which he called a “pigeon hunt” (Charlie won $5,000 from his score of $20,000.)

FJ – MYTHOLOGY – In Homer there’s only one of these, from the Greek for “terrible”; later they became 3 scary sisters

Everyone was incorrect on FJ. Charlie dropped $1,800 to win with $24,000 for a two-day total of $56,800. So far this week the players are a combined 1-for-9 on FJ.

Triple Stumper of the day: Fans of The Twilight Zone should know that the “sci-fi master” who wrote “I Sing the Body Electric!” about a robot grandmother is Ray Bradbury.

This day in Trebekistan: Alex suggested that there are three American science fiction writers, because after incorrect guesses of Issac Asimov and Robert Heinlein, he referred to Bradbury as “the other one”.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who was Pizarro?
DD2 – What is a submarine?
DD3 – What is legato?
FJ – What are Gorgons?
