On this day 15 years ago, Spider-Man 2 opened in theaters. The film was the best reviewed superhero movie ever at the time, and was a massive box office success.
In addition to its spectacular special effects and witty comedy, Spider-Man 2 also collectively introduced most of the world to the awesomeness of Alfred Molina, who made Doc Ock into one of the more tragic villains the genre has ever seen.

Spider-Man 2 was the first superhero movie I ever saw in theaters (I ended up going four times!), and it remains one of my favorite films ever. Fittingly enough, we have another “Spider-Man 2” opening in a couple of days, but I’m not sure if anything will ever top Tobey Maguire’s take on the character for me (as much as I love Tom Holland in the role).
