Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Jun. 28 – Please welcome the finalists as we wrap up the 2019 Teen Tournament:
– Ryan, an 8th grader from South Dakota, enters the game with $15,999 earned yesterday;
– Lucas, a junior from Florida, finished game one with $14,800; and
– Avi, a senior from Oregon, brings over $24,200 to be added to today’s score.
In a game remarkably similar to yesterday’s, Avi got off to a great start and Ryan cut the margin in DJ, with Avi in front into FJ at $18,200 vs. $17,400 for Ryan and $4,600 for Lucas.
DD1, video – $600 – “P”LACES ON THE MAP – Lieutenant Joseph Ives gave this name to a brilliantly colored Arizona desert now partly within Petrified Forest National Park (Lucas lost the window maximum of $1,000.)
DD2, $2,000 – IT’S TIME FOR TIME – Jet lag is a disruption in these rhythms of the body, from Latin words for “about the day” (Avi won $1,000 from his total of $7,600 in a category with which the players were struggling.)
DD3, $1,600 – EXPLORERS – He set sail from England in December 1577 & completed his circumnavigation of the world on Sept. 26, 1580 (Ryan won $4,000 from his score of $8,200.)
FJ – PLACES OF LORE – The first mention of this locale is in Chretien de Troyes’ 12th century poem “Lancelot, the Knight of the Cart”
Everyone was correct on FJ, with Avi adding $8,400 to finish at $26,600 for a winning two-day total of $50,800. Avi took the title and the $100,000 top prize. Ryan bet $9,002, improving to $26,402 and $42,401 for the two days, good for second place and $50,000. Lucas doubled to $9,200, ending at $24,000 for a cash win of $25,000.
That’s before our time: The players did pretty well in a category about old-timey songs, but no one could provide the lyric “You are lost and gone forever” from “My Darling Clementine”.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex put an end to all the speculation about who the next host of Jeopardy! is going to be, Avi is the chosen one. No wonder Avi thinks Alex rocks.
