Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Jun. 27 – Let’s meet the Teen Tournament contestants for the start of the two-day final:
– Ryan, an 8th grader from South Dakota, got into competitive spelling in fifth grade;
– Lucas, a junior from Florida, went on an Outward Bound camping trip; and
– Avi, a senior from Oregon, was totally prepared for the tiebreaker on yesterday’s show.
Avi started very strongly and Ryan did best at the end of DJ, with Avi holding a slim lead into FJ at $17,200 vs. $16,600 for Ryan and $7,400 for Lucas.
DD1, video – $400 – THE 1600s – Her marriage to John Rolfe was the Virginia social event of 1614 (Avi won $2,000 from his leading score of $3,800.)
DD2, $1,600 – A BIT OF LIT – In “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”, the mariner shoots this bird with his crossbow (Ryan won $2,000 from his total of $6,200.)
DD3, $2,000 – SPACE SCIENCE – This measure of distance in the universe is equal to 3.26 light years (Lucas lost $1,400 from his score of $7,600.)
FJ – INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS – The first time this organization invoked Article 5 was on September 12, 2001
Avi and Lucas were correct on FJ. Avi picked up $7,000 and will have $24,200 added to his score tomorrow. Ryan only lost $601, dropping to $15,999 to narrowly hold second place over Lucas, who doubled up to $14,800.
Judging the writers: The game started with a pair of stand-and-stares on upper-row clues, as the writers vastly overestimated the teen appeal of Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake and “Dancing with the Stars”.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who was Pocahontas?
DD2 – What is an albatross?
DD3 – What is a parsec?
FJ – What is NATO?
