And so the NBA and NHL seasons end, and the Raptors and Blues can enjoy a few weeks of quiet time before we start thinking about next season.
Did I say weeks? I meant seconds, since the insanely busy “off-season” started immediately. I wish that other sports followed the NFL’s lead and mandated a break between the end of the playoffs and the official beginning of new league business. It’s exhausting, if also exciting. And it feels just a little unfair to Kawhi that we don’t let him enjoy the title without constantly asking “where are you playing next year?”
But on we go, towards free agency, through the trades, and into the draft. I offer, apropos of the draft, two interesting articles:
- Tom Haberstroh on why teams seem to be worse at drafting players of late.
- Kevin Arnovitz on the inherent unfairness of having a draft and a suggestion for an alternative. (Arnovitz and SBNation’s Tom Ziller are, AFAIK, the only two sportswriters pushing for the end of the draft as we know it, and I side with them completely.)
As always, all sports topics are welcome (and as usual, it’s been a very busy sports week).
