Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Jun. 17 – The second Teen Tournament of the current season kicked off with these contestants:

– Ryan, an eighth-grader from South Dakota, is a whiz at “presidential math”;
– Stephanie, a junior from Georgia, is going for a Girl Scouts Gold Award by working on cemeteries; and
– Teagan, a freshman from North Carolina, was voted “most likely to appear on Jeopardy!”.

Teagan took the lead on DD3 and dominated the latter part of DJ to carry $19,300 into FJ vs. $12,600 for Ryan and $7,000 for Stephanie.

DD1, $1,000 – AROUND THE HOUSE – This word means “designed for work”, yet Uncle Joe has the type of recliner in which he does none (Stephanie lost $2,000. from her score of $2,800.)

DD2, $2,000 – OLD BOOKS – Ancient Greek playwright Sophocles wrote 2 plays named for this complex & troubled King of Thebes (Teagan lost $2,000 from her total of $8,200.)

DD3, $1,600 – PLANTS & TREES – Some people drink the juice of this succulent for its health benefits & a gel is used to relieve sunburns (Teagan won $1,500 from her score of $9,000 to take the lead from Ryan.)

FJ – NEW ENGLAND – Neighborhoods in this city include Federal Street, Gallows Hill & Witchcraft Heights

Everyone was correct on the extremely easy FJ clue. Teagan chose to wager for the outright win (although she would have almost surely had a wild card with a $0 wager), adding $5,901 to advance with $25,201.

Ryan, who needed to try and improve his score to get into better wild card position, added $6,701 to finish at $19,301 and is realistically a lock to advance. Stephanie did what she had to do, betting $6,999 to almost double up at $13,999.

That’s after my time: In the category “Good” Entertainment, the teens didn’t know the 2018 Billboard top-five album with the hit “Lucid Dreams” by Juice WRLD, “Goodbye & Good Riddance”.
