Welcome! The purpose of this thread is to talk about all things related to the wonderful world of musical theatre. Each week (or so) I will post a thread with a topic/question for everyone to respond to. This is also a great place to mention any new musicals you’ve discovered and/or general recommendations for other musical fans. Heard/seen any good shows lately? Have any theatre news to share? Tell us about it!
The Tony Awards were on Sunday, so let’s take a moment to recap. Here are all the winners. And here are all the performances conveniently located in one place. If you missed the show, this should pretty much catch up you on everything. James Corden hosted and left me feeling mostly “meh”. On the bright side, Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles showed up not once but twice! That helped. I’ve already downloaded The Prom (which I know I will love), Hadestown (which I’ve listened to bits and pieces of in the past and very much enjoy), and Beetlejuice (which I desperately want to like and am therefore determined to give at least one full listen to). What about you? What did you think of the Tonys? Any discoveries? Favorite performances?
I really enjoyed most of the performances (I usually do), but I think Hadestown was my favorite. It reminds me a lot of Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 (which makes sense):
Of course, the Tonys are in the past now and Broadway is ready to move on to a new season. Who knows what the 2020 Tonys will look like (Rachel Bloom should host!), but you can see a preview of the 2019-2020 season here. Any shows you’re excited about? There’s quite a mix of shows coming up, so there’s hopefully something for everyone.
