This week’s prompt: The opener.

What makes a killer first track? The best openers should set the mood and let you know what’s coming. It can welcome you in gently or roar out at you, demanding attention. What are some of your favorite first tracks? What should have been the intro, but wasn’t? Do you have any go to songs that kick off the mix tapes you make for your friends and loved ones?

One that’s a double answer for me is The Feelies’ Let’s Go. Strangely, it starts the second side their sophmore LP, The Good Earth, but it does the job of introducing you to the Feelies particular brand of velvety jangle so well that it really should have started the album. Which is why it makes a great mix starter too.
