The Boss Nass Night Thread (5/29)

A proud and aquatic race, the Gungans stood in stark opposition to the land-born Naboo.  This dichotomy was best expressed by the Gungan leader, the imperious Boss Nass.  For in his words:

“The Naboo thinks dey so smarty.  Dey tink dey brains so big.”

Boss Nass may have a point, as they are the ones who based a system of government around the election of a teenage queen.  Like, I am pretty sure “What is this Naboo nonsense?” is a phrase often uttered in the Gungan underwater city. On the flip side, the Gungans has have an explicit “pewnishing Jar Jar Binks” policy.  Pray tell, which society is the more civilized?

But as Obi-Wan pointed out, the Naboo and Gungans form a symbiotic circle.  What happens to one of them happens to both of them!  How this symbiotic relationship works… is never really explained.  Unless this is some sort of foreshadowing that Palpatine (a Naboo) would be balanced out by a total buffoon, Senator Jar Jar Binks (a Gungan), and the potent combination would lead to the complete collapse of the Old Republic.

It’s like poetry.  It rhymes.

Boss Nass was voiced with bombastic gusto by the legendary Brian Blessed, and it’s my favorite voice acting in the entire prequel trilogy.  Also, Wookiepedia tells me his first name is “Rugor.”

That’s ridiculous!

His first name is “Boss.”

Also, the Gungan battle strategy was pretty sound.  The same basic shield-based strategy was followed in Avengers: Infinity War with a far lower success rate.  Gungans 1, Avengers 0.  To be fair, the Gungans had help, and  the Avengers had already used up the “engineering genius who enjoys fast vehicles goes into space and blows up the master control ship that turns off all of the soldiers” gambit in the first Avengers movie.
