I was watching the local news Monday night and there was a segment on the 50th anniversary of the Monroeville Mall, which is being celebrated in 2019.
Monroeville is a suburb located 10 miles east of the city of Pittsburgh.
The Monroeville Mall is the setting for George Romero’s 1978 zombie classic Dawn of the Dead.
The Monroeville Mall once had a skating rink in the lower level of the mall at one point back in the day.
Today the food court is located where the skating rink used to be.
The cookie stand is not a part of the food court.
In June 2018, a bronze bust of George Romero was unveiled at the mall in memoriam of the film director.
Have a great Friday and feel free to tell us about your local shopping malls either today or back when you were a teenager.
