Hello! Welcome to the third album in the Avocado Music Club. Some set up, again: These are different than Album Spotlights which are great and people put a lot of effort into. I won’t be putting a lot of effort into the body of these because I hate writing and don’t want to put my own opinion in them. The goal with these will be to, hopefully, have people listen to them ahead of time and be interested in discussing the album – including, in the future, recommendations they may not have otherwise listened to and engaged with. From the initial recommendations, let’s listen and talk about:
Animal Collective – Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished
Released originally in 2000, Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished is the first (kind of) release from Animal Collective though it is a collaboration between just Avey Tare and Panda Bear.
Track Listing:
- Spirit They’ve Vanished
- April and the Phantom
- Untitled
- Penny Dreadfulls
- Chocolate Girl
- Everyone Whistling
- La Rapet
- Bat You’ll Fly
- Someday I’ll Grow to Be as Tall as the Giant
- Alvin Row
So, come talk about this album. Is it great/good/bad? Does it mean anything? Favorite parts/lyrics? How does it hold up? What are its influences? Has it influenced anything? How does it compare with the rest of the year’s music? Talk about anything, even if it’s (politely) negative, have fun!
