Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Apr. 29 – Here are today’s contestants:
– Adam, a sports information director from Massachusetts, was in the worst a cappella group of all time, the Monotones;
– Jasmine, a social media specialist from Illinois, has a podcast about movie and TV plants; and
– James, a professional sports gambler from Nevada, is “living with the consequences” of his wedding date of 90812. James is a 17-day champ with winnings of $1,275,587.
After a close round one, James extended his lead on DD2, then Adam made a big move on DD3 to keep it close going into FJ. The scores were James with $33,517, Adam at $26,999 and Jasmine with $7,800.
DD1, $1,000 – BREAKS & LIVERS – This portal vein brings venous blood to the liver, while this artery brings oxygenated arterial blood (On the opening clue of the game, James bet the full dime and lost $1,000 with his response of pulmonary, as he didn’t pay attention to the category.)
DD2, $1,200 – FACTS ABOUT POETS – Seamus Heaney’s 1999 translation of this 1,200-year-old epic poem was a surprise bestseller (James won a “Vegas strong” $10,117 from his total of $15,000.)
DD3, $2.000 – ALLITERATIVE PHRASES – Ships of yore masked their nationality with this, now a term for any covert act designed to make another entity look guilty (Adam won $12,000 from his score of $13,000 vs. $28,317 for James.)
FJ – ORGANIZATIONS – The oldest of these business booster groups, formed in Marseille in 1599, uses “de” instead of “of” in the name
James and Adam were correct on FJ, with James adding $20,500 to win with $54,107 for an 18-day total of $1,329,604.
Strategy corner: By wagering nearly everything, Adam didn’t maximize his chances of winning, as he forced himself to be correct on FJ to have a chance. Also, despite Alex’s comments that Jasmine’s bet of $0 was “wise”, her only chance to win was to bet big, be correct and hope both opponents made large wagers and missed.
That’s before our time: No one knew the male star of “The Shop Around the Corner” is Jimmy Stewart.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex no longer feels like he deserves equal billing on “The James Holzhauer Show”, and thinks podcasts are like a children’s game.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is hepatic?
DD2 – What is Beowulf?
DD3 – What is false flag?
FJ – What is chamber of commerce?
