MLB TALK
• The Yankees legitimately have a full starting lineup’s worth of players on the IL right now (13 players in total). In spite of that, they’re still in second place in the American League East. As they start to return players over the coming months, they may find themselves with the run of the division for the 2019 season.

• Speaking of injuries, other teams have announced season ending injuries for multiple players over the past week. Toronto lost Matt Shoemaker (ACL tear), Detroit lost Matt Moore (meniscus tear) and the Braves saw Arodys Vizcaino (shoulder surgery) go down. Maybe this opens up a spot for free agents Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Keuchel who both remain without homes as the season’s first month is approaching the end. Gio Gonzalez is also available after opting out of his minor league contract with the Yankees.

• The Mets Jacob DeGrom went through a very confusing news cycle recently. He went on the IL April 19 with what was announced as elbow soreness. Then it was an illness with an MRI for his elbow scheduled as a precautionary measure. Then there wasn’t going to be an MRI. Then there was and it came back clean. Reportedly he’ll be back on the mound this coming weekend.

• Christian Yelich of the Brewers wont the NL MVP last year. Is he even better this year? This ESPN article looking at his play since the All-Star break last season seems to make the case that he has elevated his play to another level. And his 8 home run binge in the past week is nothing to sneeze at. It would’ve been 9 home runs if not for this beauty of a catch by the Dodgers Cody Bellinger
