Know your a B.C. s
B.C. is a daily American comic strip created by cartoonist Johnny Hart. Set in prehistoric times, it features a group of cavemen and anthropomorphic animals from various geologic eras. B.C. made its newspaper debut on February 17, 1958. B.C. was drawn by its original creator when Hart died at his drawing board in Nineveh, New York, on April 7, 2007.
B.C. is now produced by Mason Mastroianni, Johnny’s grandson.
Let’s meet the cast
After Hart became a born-again Christian in 1977, the strip gradually began adding more and more of Hart’s religious and political beliefs until most strips were Christian-themed. Some newspapers refused to print certain strips that were deemed overly proselytizing. For me , the strip I grew up on became completely intolerable. After Hart’s death in 2007 (yay?) it reverted to a mostly gag-a-day strip maintained by daughter Perri Hart and grandson Mason Mastroianni.
Other recurring, non-human, characters include
- The Snake (foil for Fat Broad)
- The Eatanter
- The Ants (with Queen Ida ruling over them)
- Clams
- Dinosaurs
- John the Turtle and the Dookie Bird
Here at the Comic Strip Club we enjoy its antics on a mosty daily basis
