Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Apr. 3

Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Apr. 3 – Let’s meet today’s contestants:

– Alex, a regulatory research counselor from Colorado, didn’t impress his first-grade teacher by knowing a Triple Stumper;
– Rose, an editor-store clerk from Kentucky, was inspired by her Jeopardy!-whiz grandmother; and
– Steven, a sports industry consultant from Georgia, earned a cake-topping award for his “Lord of the Rings” knowledge. Steven is a five-day champ with winnings of $115,501.

Steven took a couple of backward steps in a DJ Shakespeare category and simply never recovered as Alex took control of the action. But a potentially important scoring change from the judges before FJ kept Rose within two-thirds of the leader at $12,800 vs. $18,900 for Alex and $5,400 for Steven.

DD1, $600 – _____ OF _____ – For the last 500 years, British coronations have taken place at Westminster Abbey, conducted by this person Rose won $1,000)

DD2, $1,600 – SHAKESPEARE – King Lear complained, “How sharper than” this “it is to have a thankless child” (Steven lost $3,800)

DD3, $1,200 – CITIES ON THE MISSISSIPPI – It’s the northernmost state capital on the Mississippi (Alex won $2,500)

FJ – INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS – From the name of the world capital it serves, DEL is the 3-letter code for the Asian airport named for her

Alex and Rose were correct on FJ, with Alex adding $7,100 to win with $26,000. Rose wagered nearly everything, and by doing so forced herself to be right on FJ to have a chance, while with a small bet she could have won if Alex missed without having to be correct herself.

Judging the writers: In a clue about nicknames, they refer to Slim Shady as a musician, even though that is a character and there is no real person for which Slim would be a nickname.

This day in Trebekistan: Alex apparently thinks “Hobbit/Lord of the Rings” movies are a little less than 90 minutes long.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who is the Archbishop of Canterbury?
DD2 – What is “a serpent’s tooth”?
DD3 – What is St. Paul?
FJ – Who was Indira Gandhi?
