Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Mar. 20 – Let’s meet today’s contestants:
– Karen, an enrollment specialist from Massachusetts, whose stepbrother was part of a Jeopardy! clue;
– Jonathan, a senior finance manager from Colorado, made an elaborate proposal; and
– Lindsey, a physician from Pennsylvania, has a hideous stuffed lobster. Lindsey is a four-day champ with winnings of $101,002.
Lindsey missed DD3 to fall back into a three-way tie for the lead, and didn’t have her usual late surge in DJ, so it was Jonathan showing the way into FJ with $13,000 vs. $11,000 for Lindsey and $8,200 for Karen.
DD1, $800 – BEFORE HE WAS VICE PRESIDENT… – He taught at the University of Minnesota in the early 1940s and then served as Mayor of Minneapolis (Jonathan won $600 on a true DD.)
DD2, $1,600 – “M”OUNTAINS – Toblerone says the shape of its triangular chocolate bars wasn’t really inspired by this peak (Jonathan won $2,000)
DD3, $1,200 – ARTISTS ON FILM – 2001 film with John Leguizamo as Toulouse-Lautrec (Lindsey lost $1,400)
FJ – ROYAL HOUSES – Family name of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s brother Henry, whom his supporters called Henry IX of England
Jonathan was the only player correct on FJ, but thanks to suboptimal wagering by both opponents, he would have won even if he had missed. Jonathan added $9,001 to win with $22,001.
Triple Stumper of the day: In the “R.R.” category, no one knew the USPS postcard that is evidence of delivery is a return receipt.
Vincent vexations: The players missed back-to-back clues about Van Gogh biopics, with Jonathan getting the comedy award for guessing “My Left Ear” for the 1950s film starring Kirk Douglas (“Lust for Life”).
Strategy corner: On the last clue of DJ, Lindsey was exactly $2,000 behind Jonathan and more than $2,000 ahead of Karen, so she should have tried for the tie by taking a guess of an African country.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who was Humphrey?
DD2 – What is the Matterhorn?
DD3 – What is “Moulin Rouge!”?
FJ – What is Stuart?
