Welcome to the Book Nook! This is the weekly thread for Avocados to discuss books we’re currently reading, recommendations, genre, and serious literary criticism.
This week’s recommended discussion: Every few months, I ask about books we see in other media. Books that comment on the plot or character, serve as clues, or are subtle touchstones. I love the intertextual relationship between books and TV and movies. (Why yes, I did watch Russian Doll recently, and was inspired by its use of Emily of New Moon. I feel like it’s a rich topic, and I’m happy to mine it repeatedly.) What are some of your favorite examples of books used in TV and movies?
One caveat: because we’re here to use our words, this is a NO GIF/YouTube/social media embed zone (the OTs are full of clutter, and I want to keep that out of this thread).
upcoming topics:
3/13: scamming authors and epic little liars (h/t a quiet storm)
