Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Mar. 4 – Game one of the $1,000,000 final match of Jeopardy! All-Stars featured these matchups:
– SJ: Ken, Brad, Pam (Team Colby)
– DJ: Matt (Team Ken), Larissa (Team Brad), Colby
– FJ: Monica (Team Ken), David (Team Brad), Alan (Team Colby)
After a discussion of the shooting of the tournament’s opening sequence, SJ got underway, with Ken edging out Brad by a score of $8,000 to $7,200, with Pam in third with $1,600.
DD1, $600 – EUROPEAN HISTORY – On March 1, 2007, 170 Swiss troops accidentally wandered into & “invaded” this 62-sq.-mi. nation — it was dark, OK? (Brad won $1,000 on a true DD.)
In DJ, Matt and Larissa proved to be very well-matched, as Matt came away with just a slight advantage, leading his team into FJ with $25,000 vs. $22,800 for Larissa and $4,000 for Colby.
DD2, $1,200 – COMPUTER SCIENCE – In programming, these symbols “are standing by” to represent actions; in C++ some are =, * and of course ++ (Larissa won $4,000 – she had $8,800 to wager, and knowing what Ken is capable of in tomorrow’s DJ round, this was an all-in situation.)
DD3, $1,600 – THE SEA’S THE LIMIT – The northernmost part of this island nation ends in the Sea of Okhotsk (Matt won $3,800)
FJ – ANCIENT WRITINGS – Its principles still used today, this treatise has chapters called “Weak Points & Strong” & “Tactical Dispositions”
After the FJ flops by everyone in the last two games, the writers served up a softball that the champs got with ease (including non-poker-faced Alan). David made the biggest bet of $13,200 to lead with $36,000 going into game two. Monica added $7,500 to finish at $32,500, with Alan doubling up to $8,000.
Triple Stumpers of the day: The DJ players didn’t know the 3-digit plan used to help pay for college is 529, or the 3 units the corps in the Army of the Potomac were split into were divisions.
This day in Trebekistan: Sounds like Ken got a chuckle when Alex followed the introduction of the “Wood!” category with, “Oh! That should bring back memories!”
Fantasy update: Alex still holds the lead at 49, but it’s just a matter of time before he’s overtaken by Ken (43), followed by Larissa (37) and Matt (34).
