Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Mar. 1

Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Mar. 1 – In the concluding game of the wild-card match of Jeopardy! All-Stars, here are the matchups by round:

– SJ: Jennifer (Team Buzzy, $0 carried over from game one), Alan (Team Colby, $7,600), Leonard (Team Austin, $5,200)
– DJ: Alex (Team Buzzy), Pam (Team Colby), Roger (Team Austin)
– FJ: Buzzy, Colby, Austin

The scores after SJ were Alan extending his team’s lead at $6,000 (including a score adjustment made during DJ) over Jennifer ($2,200) and Leonard ($2,100).

In DJ, Alex drew away from the competition and went for the kill on DD3, but shockingly missed it, dropping to $0. Meanwhile, Roger did just well enough to ensure that his team would advance if Austin was correct on FJ with a score of $8,900 vs. $7,600 for Pam and $3,600 for Alex.

DD1, $600 – THEIR IVY LEAGUE ALMA MATER – Brooke Shields (class of ’87 with honors) and F. Scott Fitzgerald (Leonard lost $2,500)

DD2, $1,600 – “E”PONYMOUS – The plane truth is that this 2-word branch of math is named for a Greek who lived around 300 B.C. (Alex went all-in for $7,400)

DD3, $1,600 – ON THE SOUNDTRACK – 1994: “Son of a Preacher Man” and “Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon” (Alex went all-in for $15,600 with a lead of $10,400 late in the round.)

FJ – PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION YEARS – Prior to 2016 it was the last election year in which the winning candidate had never held public elected office

Incredibly, everyone missed FJ, and while Colby had the right President, he didn’t have the correct election year for his first term. Fortunately for his team, that mistake wasn’t costly, as Colby dropped only $101 to end the game at $7,499 for a winning two-day score of $15,099.

Austin bet everything, resulting in a two-game score of $5,200, while Buzzy also went all-in, giving his team its second straight $0 total. Both team will split $75,000, while Team Colby will take on Teams Ken and Brad for the $1,000,000 top prize.

Pop culture problems: The first round players didn’t know the desert-set 1921 film starring Rudolph Valentino is “The Sheik”, or the name of “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner.

No harm no foul: The DJ contestants all took an incorrect guess on the 2018 sequel with the songs “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “Mutant Convoy”, “Deadpool 2”.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is Princeton?
DD2 – What is Euclidean geometry?
DD3 – What is “Pulp Fiction”?
FJ – What is 1952?
