Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Feb. 21 – After yesterday’s first round in match 1, game 1 of the Jeopardy! All-Star Games, it was Team Brad at $8,400, Team Buzzy with $6,600 and Team Colby at $3,200. Taking over for DJ were:
– Larissa (Team Brad), whose winnings gave her life choices;
– Alan (Team Colby), who wants to crush Buzzy; and
– Buzzy, who gets bossed around by his family.
Larissa got off to a very fast start, scoring on DD2, but her team’s lead was almost completely erased by a big bet and correct response by Buzzy to DD3. It remained tight from that point, with Larissa (Team Brad) leading into FJ with $29,800 vs. $26,200 for Team Buzzy and $6,400 for Alan (Team Colby).
DD2, $1,600 – PHYSICS – Victor Hess showed that certain rays intensify with altitude, so they must be from space; Robert Millikan named them these (Larissa won $6,000)
DD3, $1,600 – POLITICIANS – Before going to the Supreme Court, he made history by winning 3 straight California gubernatorial elections (Buzzy won $10,000)
Stepping in for FJ were:
– David (Team Brad), who likes the extra pressure;
– Pam (Team Colby), who went to law school with a College Championship opponent; and
– Jennifer (Team Buzzy), who still teaches third grade.
FJ – AFRICAN GEOGRAPHY – The 7-letter names of these western- & easternmost mainland countries begin with the same letter
Only David was correct on FJ, and as suggested by the clip of the team discussing their wagering strategy, David went big, adding $20,000 to finish game one at $49,800.
Jennifer went with Buzzy’s advice and decided to “punt”, wagering $0 to end at $26,200, while Pam, needing to try and make a move, bet it all to finish at $0.
Triple Stumper of the day: No one recalled the white “milk of amnesia” involved in Michael Jackson’s death, Propofol.
DD2 – What are cosmic rays?
DD3 – Who was Earl Warren?
FJ – What are Senegal and Somalia?
