Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Jan. 31

Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Jan. 31 – Let’s meet today’s contestants:

– J.B., an attorney from Idaho, whose daughter is a 4-year-old Jeopardy! whiz;
– Meghan, an environmental engineer from Pennsylvania, does vintage chorus girl dances; and
– Joan, a Montessori teacher from Washington state, has a son in college in Canada. Joan is a one-day champ with winnings of $21,300.

J.B. was correct on all three DDs, most importantly on the last clue of DJ, on which he wagered enough to take the lead away from Meghan. J.B. entered FJ with $14,400 vs. $14,000 for Meghan and $6,000 for Joan.

DD1 ($800) – OFFICIAL STATE FOODS – Start spreading the news: New York has an official muffin that’s made with this state fruit (J.B. won $1,000)

DD2 ($1,200) – 1960s AMERICA – He formed a Harvard psychedelic drug research program; he was dismissed by Harvard in 1963 (J.B. won $2,000)

DD3 ($1,200) – THE SUPERB OWL – The owl as traditionally been considered wise, as it was the bird of this Greek goddess (J.B. won $5,000)

FJ – FEMALE SINGERS – In the 1990s this New York native had 8 of her first 10 Billboard Top 40 hits reach no. 1

Meghan chose not to lock out Joan and forced herself to be correct to win by betting a big $13,190. The gamble paid off as she was right while J.B. missed, with Meghan taking the $27,190 victory.

Triple Stumpers of the day: In the 1960s category, two players took incorrect guesses and a third chose not to ring in for the President who got “pupniks” from Khrushchev, JFK. Also, images of biopic subjects and the dates of the films didn’t lead the contestants to “The Miracle Worker” or “Immortal Beloved”.

This day in Trebekistan: By the way he read the clue about Jon Gruden, Alex seemed puzzled as to why he would return to coach the woeful Raiders.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is apple?
DD2 – Who was Leary?
DD3 – Who is Athena?
FJ – Who is Mariah Carey?
