The Weekend Politics Thread Is Back In Business

The longest government in American history has come to an end. It’s architect, one Donald Trump, has caved on his demands for a border wall. In honor of this occasion, I present to you several lovely photos of caves.

The current situation: the government is officially reopened – for the next 3 weeks. It would be pretty weird for Trump and McConnell to open themselves up to another guaranteed humiliating loss to Speaker Pelosi, so another shutdown seems – dare I say, unlikely? Hopefully we’re done with government shutdowns for the next, uh, forever. As for the wall, we’re more likely to see Trump’s emergency backup plan, which is literally to declare a national emergency.

And why wouldn’t he? If everyone is too busy discussing whether a fraudulent national emergency is an impeachable offense, then they won’t have time to discuss whether conspiring with a hostile foreign government to swing an election is impeachable. Ha Ha! Ha! That’s the ticket! Plus if that all goes south, he’s got an ace in the hole: the world’s greatest attorney, Rudolph Giuliani.

It’s a miscalculation. Mueller keeps coming, and he won’t stop until every Trump except Barron and possibly Tiffany is in Alcatraz. I base this admittedly bold claim on two key facts. 1. Roger Stone is the latest Trump associate to be arrested, and the charges are about as Russia-colludey as you can get. That’s the whole reason Mueller’s investigation exists. 2. Considering how important the spotlight is to Trump, don’t you think he’d appreciate being locked up for the rest of his life in THE MOST FAMOUS PRISON IN AMERICAN HISTORY? I think they just might do him that favor, if pleads guilty. “Hey, look, Donny, you made a good deal for once!”

Geez, what else is going on? Everything, apparently. Lots of folks are running for the Democratic nomination for President. If successful, they will take office in [checks watch] 2 YEARS, but somehow it makes sense in this wacky universe. You know what else is weird? There are other countries besides the US, too!

Please pardon my sarcasm – the intended target is myself, since I mostly stick to my own country’s politics in these here headers, even though I live abroad. So if you’ve got news or commentary from any place, about anything politics-y, say it here. Unless it violates the Mayor McSquirrel rule, in which case you should not say it here. Let’s go!
