The Day Thread Visits Porto

I had planned on doing a longer header for the day thread today, but I was sick yesterday and didn’t have the energy to write anything. So instead, I thought I’d share a bit of one of my favourite cities that I’ve visited, Porto.

Located in northern Portugal, Porto is the second-largest city in the country and is situated on the banks of the Douro River. The city was traditionally the economic and industrial heart of Portugal, and today is probably best known for being where port wine is produced (though technically it’s made in Vila Nova de Gaia, a separate city on the south bank of the river).

Porto, like other Portuguese cities, is also known for its azulejos, a type of decorative tiling found on buildings all across the city.

The arrivals hall of São Bento railway station is especially famous for its azulejos murals.

Porto is a beautiful city, and one that’s thoroughly enjoyable to get a little bit lost in. I hope you’ve enjoyed this brief tour, and that you all have a great day!
