Welcome to the 52nd Annual Snubby Awards, where we honor the best films and performances of the year inexplicably ignored by the Academy of Motion Pictures, and the worst host-related scandal we’ve had only involved swiping a cookie someone had left unsupervised.
Snubbies threads that delved into cinema’s past stuck to the “major” awards categories, plus three more categories that don’t exist but should — Best Stuntwork, Best Voicework, and Best Cast. But as these movies are fresh in our minds, we’ll include every Oscar category, plus those three new ones.
Voting works like this: In each category below, suggest any and every film or performance you think is deserving except ones that received an Oscar nomination. Upvote as many suggestions as you think are deserving (and unlike most threads, upvoting yourself is fare game). Top five upvote-getters will be our Snubby nominees, and we’ll start another thread in two weeks to vote for the winners, who will receive a gold state of Spike Lee (who shockingly finally got the Best Director nod he deserved 30 years ago. And 26 years ago. And 21 years ago. And 16 years ago.) As always, please try and keep commentary to the Discussion Threads, to keep the page from getting too messy. (Still easier to follow than Kinja)
Here for your reference, are this year’s Oscar nominees, who are not eligible for a Snubby.
