Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Jan. 18

Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Jan. 18 – Today’s contestants are:

– David, a cocktail bartender from New York, proposed during a pub quiz;
– Megan, a wildlife technician from California, is an amateur belly dancer; and
– John, a microbiologist from Ohio, kept score while watching the show with his family. John is a two-day champ with winnings of $37,200.

John scored on all three DDs, and while David had a chance to break up the runaway on DJ’s last clue, he couldn’t ring in fast enough. So going into FJ, John couldn’t be caught with $30,600 vs. $14,600 for David and $9,000 for Megan.

DD1 ($1,000) – AFRICAN CAPITALS – The American Colonization Society founded this city that now houses Bushrod Island (John won $2,400 on a true DD.)

DD2 ($1,200) – LOVE & MARRIAGE – This 4-letter word has fallen out of use in vows; Elizabeth used it to marry Philip, but Diana didn’t to marry Charles (John won $5,000)

DD3 ($1,600) – SOME SCIENCE, THEN DEATH – Wrote the book on plant classification — “Species Plantarum” — in 1753; pushing up daisies in 1778 (John won $5,000)

FJ – TV PERSONALITIES – In 2000 this man was the host of a no. 1 rated network show & a no. 2 rated syndicated talk show

The players didn’t remember the quiz show that briefly overtook Jeopardy! in popularity as all three missed FJ. As expected, John made a small wager, dropping $600 to win with $30,000 for a three-day total of $67,200.

This day in Trebekistan: Alex’s pre-DJ comment about John’s opponents needing to prevent a runaway seemed to concede first place to John going into FJ. Also, Alex assured us that he will continue to play that funky music.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is Monrovia?
DD2 – What is obey?
DD3 – Who was Linnaeus?
FJ – Who is Regis Philbin?
