Public Domain Theater: Safety Last! (& “Felix in Hollywood”)

Welcome to Public Domain Theater, your home for the wonderful world of films that have (in the United States, at least) fallen into the public domain, and are free for everyone to see!

This week is a special one for Public Domain Theatre. For the first time in 20 years, American copyrights have begun expiring again. As of January 1st, 2019, all creative works released in 1923 are now in the public domain. To celebrate this occasion, we’re presenting to you one of these newly public domain movies, a silent film comedy starring that master of slapstick and stuntwork, Harold Lloyd: Safety Last!

But before we get to that, we also have a short cartoon from 1923, starring that animation icon Felix the Cat: “Felix in Hollywood”.

So sit back, folks, and enjoy some of the best that silent film comedies have to offer!
