Well, here we are in the final round.
To earn it’s way into the championship match, “O Holy Night” (which was the #1 seed in the Religious division), had to overcome the “He Shall Feed His Flock” aria from Handel’s Messiah, “What Child Is This” (aka “Greensleeves”), “We Three Kings,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” and finally “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” (final score 59-21). Only “O Come” was able to really give it a run for it’s money–Round 4 was by far it’s closest match, where it won by 5 votes.
On the other side of the bracket is “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” which was not only #1 in the Sad Division, but also the top upvoted song overall in the nomination round. The song went up against “I’m Not Ready for Christmas,” “I Wonder as I Wander,” “Please Come Home for Christmas,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Christmas Time Is Here,” and finally “Carol of the Bells” (final score 53-30). This song basically steamrolled over everything, the last match against “Carol of the Bells” being its smallest margin of victory.
There have been very few surprises along the way, but I hope you’ve had fun voting anyway. I’ll be posting two matches below: the championship match and the third-place match-up between “Mr. Grinch” and “Carol of the Bells.” I’ll have one more thread (probably on Friday) to announce the winners. Thanks for playing along!
