Christmas Song Tournament–Round 4: Divisional Semifinals

It’s time to start Round 4, the divisional semifinals!  This time there are few enough songs remaining that I’m just doing one post with all divisions.  But first, here are the stats on the Round 3 matchups:

Religious Division

  • Most upvoted song:  Hark! The Herald Angels Sing (#3) with 40 votes
  • Least upvoted song: O Come O Come Emmanuel (#6) with 17 votes
  • Biggest blowout:  Hark! The Herald Angels Sing over O Come O Come Emmanuel with final score of 40-17
  • Closest match: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (#2) over Do You Hear What I Hear (#7) with a final score of 34-20
  • Winner with least votes: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen with 34 votes
  • Loser with most votes: a tie between Silent Night (#5) and Do You Hear What I Hear with 20 votes each

No surprises here, the last 4 remaining are the four top-seeded in the division.

Sad Division

  • Most upvoted song: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (#1) with 50 votes
  • Least upvoted song: Please Come Home for Christmas (#9) with 5 votes
  • Biggest blowout: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas over Please Come Home for Christmas with a final score of 50-5
  • Closest match: Fairytale of New York (#3) over Last Christmas (#6) with a final score of 31-24
  • Winner with least votes: Fairytale of New York with 31 votes
  • Loser with most votes: Last Christmas with 24 votes

Again, the top 4 seeds move on.

Seasonal Division

  • Most upvoted song: You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch (#1) with 45 votes
  • Least upvoted song: Jingle Bells (#8) with 11 votes
  • Biggest blowout: You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch over Jingle Bells with a final score of 45-11
  • Closest match: Winter Wonderland (#4) over Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (#28) with a final score of 38-20
  • Winner with least votes: Winter Wonderland with 38 votes
  • Loser with most votes: Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy with 20 votes

A pretty big upset as the #2 Jingle Bell Rock is taken out by #7 Let It Snow.  And the Sugar Plum Fairy’s dance comes to a decisive end.

Secular Division

  • Most upvoted song: Carol of the Bells (#2) with 40 votes
  • Least upvoted song: a tie between Mele Kalikimaka (#7) and Silver Bells (#12) with 20 votes each
  • Biggest blowout: Carol of the Bells over Mele Kalikimaka with a final score of 40-20
  • Closest match: It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas (#22) over Holly Jolly Christmas (#14) with a final score of 30-26
  • Winner with least votes: It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas with 30 votes
  • Loser with most votes: All I Want for Christmas Is You (#1) with 27 votes

The biggest upset, as Mariah Carey’s #1 seed is eliminated by #8 seed The Christmas Song.  Also, “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” is now the lowest seed remaining from any division at #22.

This round will stay open through the weekend (because I won’t have time to post the next round until Monday).  On Monday we’ll determine the divisional champions, who’ll move on the Final Four.  The Final Four matchups will be live on Tuesday, and the championship will be Wednesday!
