Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Nov. 29 – Let’s meet today’s contestants:
– Phil, a portable restroom service technician from Indiana, whose job allows access to interesting places;
– Chris, a consultant from New York, loves European soccer; and
– Adriana, a data scientist from California, runs after strange dogs for love. Adriana is a one-day champ with winnings of $30,401.
After Adriana was correct on the first two DDs, it looked like she was on her way to controlling the action. But she couldn’t improve her score in the latter part of DJ, allowing Phil to catch up and take first place into FJ with $14,000 vs. $12,200 for Adriana and $11,200 for Chris.
DD1 – CRYPTOCURRENCIES – In 2018 this South American country launched the petro currency backed by oil reserves (Adriana won $2,500)
DD2 – ELEMENTAL U.S. PLACES – The ghost town of Manganese is in this state with the same 2-letter abbreviation as manganese (Adriana won $3,500 – she has now been correct on five consecutive DDs.)
DD3 – IT’S A DATE – April 12, 1861: shooting starts here (Chris won $3,400 on a true DD.)
FJ – CATHOLICISM – A liturgical year begins on the first Sunday of Advent, which is the Sunday closest to the feast day of this “first apostle”
FJ was a Triple Stumper and Adriana made the smallest wager, resulting in a $7,000 loss for a victory worth $5,200 and a two-day total of $35,601. The percentage play for Chris was to make a tiny bet from a close third position, but he wagered nearly everything, costing him the game.
That’s before our time: An illustration of a trip from the U.S. to Nepal didn’t lead the players to “1981 adventure film character” Indiana Jones, and they couldn’t come up with the singer who “spoke perfect Hobokenese”, Frank Sinatra.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex, to a player who knew a response but didn’t signal: “Ring in! That’s what you do!” He also used his hand to figure out the number of people in a quartet.
DD1 – What is Venezuela?
DD2 – What is Minnesota?
DD3 – What is Fort Sumter?
FJ – Who was St. Andrew?
