Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Nov. 20 – Returning for the deciding game in the Teen Tournament were:
– Maya, a senior from Georgia, with $7,800 carried over from the previous game;
– Claire, a senior from Florida, with $21,800; and
– Emma, a junior from Maryland, with $19,000.
The players faced more of a challenge with today’s material, but in the end it was Claire who fared the best once again, finishing DJ with $16,400 to secure a runaway in the two-day totals. Second place was still up for grabs between Maya at $10,400 for this game and Emma with $6,800.
DD1 – THE OLYMPICS – The Olympic motto, the Latin “Citius, altius, fortius”, means “Faster, higher”, this (Maya won $1,000 – given her deficit from the previous game, she clearly should have bet her entire $2,600.)
DD2 – HISTORIC TRIOS – The Lancaster dynasty of English monarchs comprised the IV, V & VI kings of this name (Claire lost $2,000)
DD3 – ASIAN GEOGRAPHY – 5 countries including Azerbaijan & Russia border this large “sea” that’s really a lake (Claire won $2,000)
FJ – AMERICANA – It’s the official fruit of the District of Columbia
Some familiarity with “Parson Weems’ Fable” would have helped here, as surprisingly everyone missed FJ (Emma really should have taken some sort of guess).
Claire bet $0 to win with a two-day total of $38,200, good for the $100,000 top prize. Emma lost all her earnings in this game but still held second with $19,000 and won $50,000. Maya dropped $7,800 and wound up at $10,400 for the two days, winning $25,000.
Triple Stumper of the day: The players didn’t guess the last Federal holiday of the calendar year is Christmas, at which point Trebek, on his best behavior during this tournament, couldn’t hold himself back from mocking the contestants.
Judging the writers: Alex noticed there were clues about adult-oriented TV shows that aren’t aimed at younger viewers, such as “Game of Thrones” and “House of Cards”.
