Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Nov. 14 – Round two of the Teen Tournament began with these contestants:
– Claire, a senior from Florida, acts in musicals and repairs microphones;
– Autumn, a junior from Missouri, saved her cat which was up a tree; and
– Tim, a senior from Illinois, taught Quiz Bowl.
The battle in DJ was mainly between Claire and Tim, but Autumn was given a fantastic chance to take control when she found DD3 with just three other clues remaining. However, she chose to make a small bet, so she remained in third going into FJ with $9,400 vs. $13,600 for Claire and $13,400 for Tim.
DD1 – MEDIEVAL TIMES – He was born in Mecca around 570 & is still changing history (Tim won $1,000)
DD2 – BODIES OF WATER – 2 giant rocks called the Pillars of Hercules mark the entrance to this strait (Claire won $1,000)
DD3 – UNDERSTANDING MONEY – A 6-horse stagecoach is the symbol of this giant bank (Autumn won $1,600 – at the time she had $9,400 vs. $13,400 for $13,200 for her opponents, so the best move there would to go nearly all-in and carry the lead into FJ if correct.)
FJ – 19TH CENTURY NAMES – In the 1870s he wrote that “man is descended from a hairy, tailed quadruped, probably arboreal in its habits”
Everyone was correct on FJ. Claire advanced to the final round with her wager of $13,201, improving to $26,801 and finishing one dollar ahead of Tim.
Triple Stumper of the day: The players might have forgotten the category (“Rivalry”) when they didn’t get a clue about the rival of Sherlock Holmes, Moriarty.
We don’t care about this yet dept.: The teens didn’t know the “gains” paid on a multi-million dollar house sale are capital gains.
One more thing: Have to love how Autumn called for the opening clue in the “Me Want Cookie!” category: “COOKIETHOUSAND!”
DD1 – Who is Muhammad?
DD2 – What is Gibraltar?
DD3 – What is Wells Fargo?
FJ – Who was Darwin?
