The Weekly History Thread

Welcome to this week’s History Thread! Our picture commemorates the 36th anniversary of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial opening in Washington, DC. Designed by 21 year old architecture student Maya Lin, its simple design (a black wall listing the names of all Americans killed in the conflict) caused intense controversy among veterans groups, various politicians and assorted jingos during its time, but was eventually accepted as as good a monument to that disastrous war as could probably be constructed in this country.
