Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Sept. 10 – The 35th season of the Trebek version kicked off with these contestants:
– Caitlin, an M.D. and Ph.D. student from Georgia, who as one might expect, studies a lot;
– Isaac, a senior legislative assistant from Washington D.C., saw Stephen Colbert in a hallway; and
– Rick, an English teacher from Pennsylvania, is no longer “aspiring” since getting his teaching certificate over the break. Rick is a two-day champ with winnings of $39,800.
Rick opened a big lead after hitting DD1, then Isaac missed his chance to draw close with an incorrect response to DD3. Rick went on to a runaway with $20,200 vs. $7,800 for Caitlin and $2,600 for Isaac.
DD1 – FAMOUS THREESOMES – Their names are Melchior, Balthasar and Gaspar (Rick won $3,000)
DD2 – BUSINESS – After a $26 billion merger in 2016, this business website might keep nagging Microsoft to update its resume (Issac won $2,400 on a true DD.)
DD3 – COLLEGES EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI FROM K TO Q – It’s about a 50 mile drive from Penn to this other Ivy League school that fits the category (Issac lost $5,000 – it was near the end of the round and Issac had $7,600 vs. $15,000 for Rick. This was a clear spot to go all-in, as with his $5,000 bet he would be unlikely to overtake Rick if correct, but would be eliminated with a miss.)
FJ – THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE – To set a record for longest solo journey by kayak, 2,010 miles, Helen Skelton traveled through this nation for a month
Everyone was correct on FJ but Rick didn’t risk anything, satisfied with his $20,200 and three-day total of $60,000.
Triple Stumper of the day: Anyone who listened to the radio in the 70s would know the “in” word in “I Am Woman” that means “can’t be defeated” is “invincible”.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex decided to grow his mustache back but it “got out of hand” and it now includes a beard. But he’ll get rid of it if enough fans tell him to.
DD1 – Who are the Three Wise Men?
DD2 – What is LinkedIn?
DD3 – What is Princeton?
FJ – What is Brazil?
