The Collectible Card Game Thread – Travelling with Cards

Welcome to the *CG thread, where we talk all manner of Card Games – Collectible, Trading, Living, and otherwise! Feel free to chat amongst yourselves about the card games you’re playing or anything card game-related that strikes your fancy.

Ok so I just got back from a trip and I’m still pretty jet-lagged so this is a little disjointed. I didn’t bring any cards on the trip with me, though on reflection I could have and possibly should have. CCGs actually travel pretty well, due to the low material requirement – if you bring two decks (or you bring a couple and your friend brings a couple) that’s basically all you need for potentially a lot of replayability. Compare that to a tabletop board game, and CCGs can be a pretty good fun-to-volume ratio.

One of the big appeals of the professional CCG circuit is that you get to go to some pretty interesting places. Professional Magic tournaments have happened on every continent with a major city (sorry Antarctica), and they can be a pretty big destination event.

A weird fact – due to the coating or printing or something, Magic cards show up pretty strongly on X-ray machines, so people travelling with a lot of decks often get stopped at the airport for having a bunch of solid-looking cubes in their luggage. I’m not going anywhere with this bit of trivia and I don’t know why this might be a relevant thing for me to say right now.

This week’s prompt: Have you ever travelled with CCGs? Played a CCG in an airport or on a boat? Ever travelled a significant distance to go to an event?

Or, as always, feel free to talk about anything going on with you in the world of *CGs.
