The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl is an anime film directed by Masaaki Yuasa, based on a novel of the same name written by Tomihiko Morimi. It tells the bizarre, surreal story of a night when a young male college student wants to confess his feelings of affection to his friend while she has a series of wacky adventures around town. It took the top prize for animated features at both the Ottawa International Animation Festival and the Japan Academy Awards, and as someone who had the privilege of seeing it at the Animation Is Film Festival in Los Angeles last year, I can say that it’s well worth watching. It’s finally screening this week in theatres across the United States, yesterday and today, so tonight is your last chance to see it in theatres before it comes out on home video.
