Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Jul. 17 – Today’s contestants are:
– Ryan, a student and ex-banker from Washington state, previously won four games on the show and is invited back due to a judging issue when he lost;
– Bunny, a retired operations manager from New York, is only Barbara-Ann when she’s in trouble; and
– Michelle, an elementary school music teacher from Ontario, has to find a new no. 1 on her bucket list now that she’s been on the show. Michelle is a three-day champ with winnings of $46,693.
Michelle had a big lead after round one, which Bunny was able to cut into with correct responses to both DDs in DJ. After that Bunny was unable to make further progress, dropping back into third with $9,200 going into FJ behind Michelle at $14,800 and Ryan with $11,800.
DD1 – THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE – This quiet cove of Southwest Cuba came to sudden world attention in the spring of 1961 (Michelle won $800)
DD2 – CITING THE PRESIDENT – In the early 20th century: “I took the Canal zone, & let the Congress debate, & while the debate goes on the Canal does also” (Bunny won $2,000)
DD3 – THAT’S PROPRIETARY, MA’AM- Adobe does not want you to use this imaging term as a verb or noun – try “airbrush” (Bunny won $2,000)
FJ – WORLD CAPITAL SIGHTSEEING – The unfinished Victory Over America Palace & the rundown Victory Over Iran Palace are in this city
Everyone was correct on FJ and Michelle’s pattern of modest FJ wagers finally caught up with her, as her improvement by $4,400 to $19,200 wasn’t enough to beat Ryan’s double-up to $23,600. Curiously, they made no mention of Ryan’s previous winnings of $91,198, nor did they refer to him as now being a five-time champion.
Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the 1969 French-language political film with the one-letter title, “Z”.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex offered impressions of various Presidents, but his Ford sounded strangely like FDR.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is the Bay of Pigs?
DD2 – Who was Teddy Roosevelt?
DD3 – What is Photoshop?
FJ – What is Baghdad?
