It’s time for another round of Muppet Casting, where we take a famous movie and ask, if Jim Henson’s Muppets made their own version of it (in the vein of The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island), which Muppets would you cast in the lead roles?
This week, it’s Superman: The Movie!
Kermit the Frog as Superman – Who else among the Muppets has the leading man wholesomeness to play the Man of Steel? Who can say “I’m here to fight for truth, justice, and the American way” with complete sincerity, and you only feel like laughing at him a tiny bit?
Miss Piggy as Lois Lane – This one is obvious. Lead female, love interest for Kermit’s character, and the tough woman to his gentle man.
Gonzo the Great as Lex Luthor – I can’t picture anyone but Gonzo coming up with Luthor’s wackadoodle real estate plan. Plus, he is bald on top of his head, so the gag with Luthor’s wigs would still work.
Camilla the Chicken as Miss Teschmacher – If Gonzo’s Luthor, then Camilla’s the natural choice for his Gal Friday.
Fozzie Bear as Otis – Dimwitted sidekick is the perfect role for Fozzie, even if it’s as a sidekick to Gonzo instead of Kermit this time. I can definitely see him adding “Fozzieburg” to Luthor’s big map, then immediately trying to wipe it off when Luthor gets pissed about it.
Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem as The Kryptonian Criminals – I picture Dr. Teeth as Zod, Janice as Ursa, Animal (of course) as Non, and the others getting a couple new character roles just so they can fit in there, too. Their conquest of Earth in the sequel will involve a lot more scenes of mass destruction set to rock music.
and as Jor-El
Our Very Special Guest, Mr. Stan Lee! – The DC/Marvel crossover we’ve all been dreaming of.
Those are my picks for a Muppet rendition of Superman: The Movie. What are yours?
