Weekly Japanese Pop Culture Thread (July 11th, 2018)

Cells at Work! (Japanese: Hataraku Saibō) is a manga series whose characters are anthropomorphized cells of the human body. They face down threats from bacteria and other pathogens, represented as monsters. An anime series based on the manga started airing last week.

That’s all well and good, but the main reason I’m highlighting this franchise is because the platelets are depicted as the world’s most adorable schoolchildren. Example:

THEY’RE SO CUTE!!!! I don’t care if the rest of this series turns out to be a train wreck; I will keep tuning in for the platelets.
