Jeopardy! recap for Wed., May 2 – Introducing today’s contestants:
– Laura, a quality assurance analyst from Essex Junction, VT, who got curling lessons;
– Josh, a network engineer from North Little Rock, AR, who held up traffic as the last runner in a marathon; and
– Geoff, an epidemiologist from Centennial, CO, who looks to prevent disease outbreaks. Geoff is a one-day champ with winnings of $7,599.
It was a tie between Josh and Geoff after round one, but Josh completely took over in DJ, with only a correct response to DD3 by Geoff preventing a runaway. Going into FJ it was Josh with $29,600, Geoff at $15,800 and Laura with $11,400.
DD1 – SURPRISING MUSICIANS – A church organist, this Frenchman made symbols to help blind musicians read and write music (Geoff won $1,200 on a true DD.)
DD2 – ASIAN CAPITALS – In 1959 this city was designated to replace Karachi as the capital; its construction began 2 years later (Josh won $7,000)
DD3 – FOUNDLING FATHERS – When a shepherd found this abandoned son of Laius, king of Thebes, the prophecy was back on (Geoff won $6,000 – at the time Geoff had $9,400 vs. $24,400 for Josh, so since he would have been out of it anyway if he missed with the bet he made, Geoff should have gone all-in.)
FJ – 19TH CENTURY AMERICANS – On July 10, 1804, he wrote a letter of goodbye, just in case, to “my dearest Theodosia”; he lived until 1836
For the second straight game we had a very surprising FJ Triple Stumper, with Josh dropping $6,000 to win with a still-healthy $23,600.
That’s before our time: No one knew the Steve McQueen TV Western that shares its name with a Bon Jovi title, “Wanted Dead or Alive”.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex likes how in the intro, Johnny made $7,599 sound like a big win, so of course Trebek had to nullify it and tell everyone what a paltry sum that is.
Judging the writers: They were going for a “Pyramid” theme for the Michael Strahan clue, although at no point on that show does anyone say, “7 seconds on the clock…go!”
DD1 – Who is Braille?
DD2 – What is Islamabad?
DD3 – Who was Oedipus?
FJ – Who was Burr?
