Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Apr. 27 – Please welcome today’s contestants:
– Alexandra, a college admissions counselor from Houston, TX, who bakes cheesecake to relax;
– Tom, a fulfillment associate from Pittsburgh, PA, who cooks with his wife; and
– Carolyn, a software engineer from Brooklyn, NY, who has a cat that likes to get lost. Carolyn is a one-day champ with winnings of $10,600.
Carolyn dropped half of her $8,000 on DD2, quickly got it back with a wise all-in bet on DD3 and just managed to hold onto the lead going into FJ with $9,600 vs. $9,200 for Tom and $8,800 for Alexandra.
DD1 – AMERICAN POETRY – Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote this poem as a call to help save the USS Constitution from demolition (Tom lost $1,000)
DD2 – THEATER SUPERSTITIONS – Never carry one of these feathers on stage– the evil eye may curse the show (Carolyn lost $4,000)
DD3 – LONGTIME RULERS – In the 11th century Al-Mustansir ruled Egypt for 58 years as the 8th Fatimid one of these political Muslim leaders (Carolyn won $4,000 on a true DD.)
FJ – LEGENDARY PEOPLE – Leodegrance, King of Cameliard, gave the newlyweds a piece of furniture on the marriage of this daughter
Alexandra gave up her chance at a possible Triple Stumper win by betting everything except $300, but it worked out when she was right and her opponents both missed. Alexandra added $8,500 to win with $17,300.
Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the pronoun meaning more than two from the Latin for separate is several.
Pavlov: Jane Addams = Hull House.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex was full of questionable advice, suggesting that players should bet $0 if they don’t feel comfortable with the FJ category (making no mention of how the relative scores should influence such a wager), and seemingly encouraging Tom to start guessing in DJ.
Now I’ll offer my own advice: in FJ, unless your wager can’t possibly change the outcome, don’t write a long joke response, but instead use that time to come up with a reasonable guess.
DD1 – What is Old Ironsides?
DD2 – What is a peacock feather?
DD3 – What is Caliph?
FJ – Who is Guinevere?
