Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Mar. 23 – Here are today’s contestants:

– Daniel, a student from Claremont, CA, whose fake English accent makes him sound smart;
– Tristan, a non-profit associate director from Washington, D.C., who didn’t study much in Argentina but found a girlfriend; and
– Lynn, a journalism professor from Lafayette, CO, who got to travel playing high school soccer. Lynn is a one-day champ with winnings of $8,800.

Tristan took advantage of having control to start DJ and quickly found both DDs, but had a net loss of $1,000 on them. Then Lynn hit her stride and finished very strongly, leading into FJ with $17,400 vs. $9,800 for Daniel and $7,600 for Tristan.

Lynn had a decision to make with her FJ wager, as betting the extra dollar to shut out Daniel if correct opened the possibility of losing to Tristan by $1 if he was correct and doubled up while she missed. Unfortunately for Lynn, that’s exactly the way it played out, as Tristan’s smart all-in wager paid off to the tune of $15,200.

As for Daniel, he missed after wagering $7,605, just enough to beat Lynn if she wagered virtually $0 from the lead. We see this quite a bit from trailing players, but there’s really no reason to tailor a bet size on the idea the leader might bet nothing in a non-runaway game, because the chances of that happening are almost nil.

Triple Stumpers of the day: No one knew the “Formula” cleaner’s number is 409, or that a stove with a large rounded chamber is a “potbelly”.
